WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CHRONOGRAPH AND A CHRONOMETER?

A chronograph is a stopwatch that can measure elapsed time thanks to an additional hand (a chronograph hand). A chronograph can record time in split seconds, seconds, minutes and hours, depending on the movement used.

A chronometers is a specific type of timepiece tested and certified to meet certain precision standards. In Switzerland, only timepieces certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) may use the word 'Chronometer' on them. Outside Switzerland, equivalent bodies (such as the Japan Chronometer Inspection Institute) have in the past certified timepieces to the same internationally recognised standards, although use of the term has not always been strictly controlled.

WHAT IS AN AUTOMATIC WATCH?

An automatic watch features a rotor at the backside, and is wound by the active movement of the wearer’s wrist. The longer the watch is worn, the more energy it will store. An automatic watch can also be wound manually by turning the crown (without pulling it out) clockwise 20-25 times. An automatic watch should not be wound excessively. If worn daily, then 10 turns of the crown at end of day are sufficient.

IS IT USUAL FOR AN AUTOMATIC WATCH TO RUN A FEW SECONDS LATE OR EARLY EVERY DAY?

Automatic movements are not as accurate as quartz movements and they can indeed run a little early or late. The precision of an automatic watch also depends on how it is used, and how much it is wound.  Excessive winding for example tends to slightly accelerate the movement. This is normal for a mechanical watch.

WHAT TYPE OF WATCH WINDER WOULD YOU RECOMMEND AND HOW SHOULD I USE IT?

WALDHOFF does not yet provide watch winders. Wearing or winding your watch a few times per month is sufficient to keep the movement in shape, but it is recommended not to leave the watch untouched for extended periods of time (6+ months) as the movement needs to work for the lubricant to remain in its gears.

All WALDHOFF automatic watches can be wound with a rotating watch winder.

I CANNOT FIND MY WATCH ON YOUR WEBSITE; DOES THAT MEAN IT IS A COUNTERFEIT OR A DISCONTINUED MODEL?

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO MAKE SURE MY WALDHOFF WATCH CONTINUES TO FUNCTION FOR A LONG TIME?

1. Keep your watch clean with a soft dry cloth.

2. Avoid contact with perfumes, spirits or petroleum products as these may damage seals.

3. Avoid submerging your watch in water, especially salt water. Our watches are water resistant, but not designed for watersports.
